June is Bike Month in Michiana
June 2 is Bike to Work Week
With spring in the air, South Bend, Mishawaka, and the Michiana Bicycle Coalition, announce that June is Michiana Bike Month; June 2 through 6 is Bike-to-Work Week and Monday, June 2nd is Bike-to-Work Day. The National and Indiana bike to work week is in May, however it will be celebrated later in Michiana to take advantage of the weather.
Mayor Luecke and Mayor Rea will be taking part in the festivities. We urge everyone to Bike-to-Work or try cycling for fun, fitness or transportation. On Bike-to-Work Day cyclists will gather at the Jon R. Hunt Plaza in front of the Morris Performing Arts Center in South Bend, or at Beutter Park in Mishawaka. There will be a fun ride, free coffee, juice, bagels, donuts and fruit. There will be live entertainment, and details will be forthcoming regarding times, for the all day event.
Jeff Nixa, the chair of last year’s event, said, 'Biking to work is an efficient and fun way to get the exercise you need, without having to find extra time to work out. And this year, with gasoline prices as high as they are, biking to work makes more sense than ever.'
Local sponsors include:
- Memorial Hospital
- The Vine
- Outpost Sports
- Downtown South Bend
