Join the Corporate Challenge

Every year a group of passionate cyclists come together to promote Bike to Work Week as a part of Indiana Bicycle Month. Our goal is to promote bicycle commuting as a viable mode of transportation in Michiana and for all to consider the benefits: a more active lifestyle, less traffic congestion, and a healthier community. We want to encourage individuals to leave their cars at home for the week and ride their bikes to work. It is open to all Michiana employers regardless of size. The Michiana Bike to Work Week Corporate Challenge is free!

Employer teams can register on this website (see the link at the bottom of the page). Miles that are ridden to and from work for each team member will be tracked and averaged for each team. Below is a table that provides 3 examples of how miles will be calculated for the Corporate Challenge.

How will miles be calculated?
# of Riders Total Miles Ridden Average Miles per Rider
10 riders 550 miles 55 miles per rider
20 riders 1000 miles 50 miles per rider
5 riders 100 miles 20 miles per rider

The three highest team averages will have lunch for their team catered by the Vine or Fiddler's Hearth at their place of business. The most overall miles will receive possession of the "Broken Spoke Traveling Trophy" until the 2009 Michiana Bike to Work Week and a plaque detailing the team name and total miles ridden. Additionally, each team member from the team with the most overall miles receives a 1-week pass to the Michiana YMCA. The Michiana YMCA will waive the annual corporate membership fee for the team with the largest number of participants.

The Corporate Challenge will calculate miles ridden to and from work, or while at work (e.g., running errands, going to lunch, or places that you would have driven had you taken your car to work, or even miles traveled using mass transit). The dates of the challenge are from 12:00 a.m. June 2, 2008 through 11:59 p.m. June 6, 2008. The system will allow you to enter miles until 11:59 p.m. June 8, 2008 so those that don't have a chance to keep their mileage up to date can have the weekend to enter the miles they have ridden.

Free showers for corporate challenge team members.

During the June 2-6 Bike to Work week, anyone riding their bike to work can stop into the either the YMCA or the Health & Lifestyle Center, shower and get cleaned up for work. Free!
